Decoding and designing biomolecular systems with hybrid DNA:RNA:protein nanotechnology

Our increasing knowledge of the fundamental mechanisms of life and the confluence of techniques are the basis for the development of novel life-inspired technologies. In recent years, notably in the development of COVID-19 vaccines, we have witnessed the pivotal role played by RNA in nanomedical advancements. At the same time, DNA nanotechnology has already proven to yield some of the most complex, yet well controlled, artificial biomolecular structures.

Taking these different ingredients together, our abilities of building bottom-up functional machines and biomolecular systems involving DNA, RNA and proteins are currently emerging quicker than ever before, with new prospects for drug design and delivery, biosensors, as well as complex biomolecular robots and materials.

To unlock the full potential for complex biosensing devices that modularly emulate life-like functions and interact in complex biomolecular environments, BioHYBRITE brings together a unique team of world leading academics in the forefront of relevant bottom-up hybrid nanotechnologies.
